Privacy policy

Updated: October 18, 2026
This policy applies to the curatr app (iPhone and Android) and this website. It explains in plain language which data we process, why, and how you can use your rights.

1Who is responsible?

Paul Scheuble, as operator of curatr, is responsible for data processing (address see legal notice). For privacy questions write to curationapp@gmx.de.

2Which data does curatr process, and why?

curatr is a social curation app for restaurants, cafés and bars: you rate places, see your friends' recommendations and discover new places. For this we process:

DataPurposeLegal basis

Visit dataPlaces you rate, scores, tags, notes, photos, comments, hearts. Your history, top picks and the friends feed.Contract
LocationOnly when you use search, map or “Nearby” and allow it. No background tracking, no permanent location history.Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), revocable at any time in your device settings

Social connectionsWho you follow and who follows you; places and lists sent to friends with note and reply. For the friends feed, recommendations and notifications.Contract
Contact matchingOn request the app compares phone numbers from your address book to suggest friends. It does not send numbers, only check values (hashes) of them to our server, which returns only the matches. The check values are not stored. You choose under Privacy whether others can find you by your number.Consent
NotificationsA device token to send you notifications (for example hearts, comments, follow requests, weekly and monthly recap). You can turn them off in your device settings and in the app.Consent
Reports and feedbackContent you submit via “Report” or “Give feedback”.Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)), protecting users
Technical dataWhen our servers are accessed, technical data is briefly processed (for example IP address, time, device type) for secure operation.Legitimate interest

3Where is the data stored, and who helps us?

We use technical service providers that process data only on our behalf:

We do not sell your data and do not pass it on for advertising. There is no advertising and no tracking by advertising or analytics services.

4What do other users see of you?

You decide what others see, in “Privacy” in your profile: Everyone, Followers only or Nobody (for bio, badges, top picks, recent visits, followers and following).

Name, username and profile picture are always visible to other users so the app works socially. Hints such as “friend was there” or “you both want to go” exist only between people who follow each other. You can turn this feature off in “Personalize”.

5How long do we keep data?

As long as your account exists. You can delete your account and all related data at any time in the app (Profile → Edit profile → Delete account) or request it by email, see delete account. Legal retention duties remain unaffected. Technical access data is kept by providers only briefly.

6Your rights

You have the right to access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. You can withdraw a given consent at any time with effect for the future. Just write to the address below. You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority.
